How to see how many tickets have sold for a concert

Here are 5 ways to estimate it. We also show what the ticket count did on about 2,700 tracked Ticketmaster concerts.

By the TicketFlipping team. Updated October 2026.

Ticketmaster does not publish how many tickets a concert has sold. You can estimate it from how many tickets are still listed and how that count changes. The count is not the same as tickets sold (tickets get held back, added later and taken off sale).

Why is there no public number?

The ticket seller and the promoter know the real count. They normally do not publish it while the show is on sale. The event page shows only the tickets you can buy right now. Everyone else is estimating, and that includes us.

There are 5 ways to estimate how many tickets have sold

1

Check the seat map on the primary seller

Open the event page on Ticketmaster or AXS. On a reserved-seat show, each seat you can still buy shows as a dot on the map. A seat you cannot buy was bought, held back or not released yet. The map does not say which. At the time of writing, Ticketmaster marks standard tickets and resale tickets in different colors. Count the standard ones only. General admission does not show a count. A floor or lawn is 1 block with no number on it.

Free. Reserved seats only
2

Subtract tickets remaining from capacity

Look up the venue's capacity for that show. Count the primary tickets remaining and subtract. The result is a rough upper limit on tickets bought, and it is normally too high. Some tickets are held back for the artist, the venue and sponsors. Seats get removed for the stage and production (production kills). Others have not been released yet. A single count shows none of this.

A rough upper limit
3

Track the ticket count over time

Check tickets remaining on the same event page on a schedule (every morning works). Write the number down each time. The change between 2 checks shows how fast the ticket count is falling. A count that goes up means tickets were added (a drop). People call this ticket sales tracking, but what you track is tickets remaining. The Toolbox counter shows tickets remaining on a supported event page. Flare tracks the count over time for the events you favorite.

Look at the secondary side with care

StubHub and Vivid Seats event pages show listings. A listing is tickets for sale, not tickets bought. A listing leaving the site is not proof of a sale. We checked this on 32 Vivid Seats events from August to September 2026. On those events we also tracked how many tickets were listed. The listings that left added up to about 131,000 tickets. The number of tickets listed fell by about 5,300 on the events where it fell at all. In our tracked data, most listings that left were relisted. Our ticket data guide has more on this.

Look up the box office report after the show

Pollstar and Billboard Boxscore publish tickets sold and gross for shows that are reported to them. Pollstar's reporting policy counts paid tickets. Not every show is reported, and the report comes after the show. This is the only one of the 5 ways that gives a reported count of tickets sold.

After the show only

The typical tracked ticket count fell as the show got closer

For these concerts we tracked the ticket count on the Ticketmaster event page, starting at the public onsale.

39%

Median percent of peak tracked inventory still listed. About 2,700 Ticketmaster concerts tracked from the public onsale (2,593 to 2,708 per column). Show dates Feb 15 to Sep 27, 2026. Tickets leave the count when they are bought, pulled or taken off sale. Numbers pulled October 1, 2026.

The typical tracked ticket count was more than a third (38%) below its peak 30 days before the show. We measured this on about 2,700 Ticketmaster concerts tracked from the public onsale. By 7 days before, it was about half (53%) below. At 3 days it was about 6 in 10 (61%) below its peak.

That is not 61% sold. The count is not capacity either. Holds and presale purchases are not in the peak. The count also goes up when tickets are added.

A falling ticket count is not the same as selling out

1 in 9About this many tracked Ticketmaster concert and theater events really sold out (165 of 1,476).
1 in 6About this many tracked events still had plenty of inventory 72 hours before the show. Then they went to zero (245 of 1,476).
1 in 3About this many concert, comedy and theater shows added tickets after the public onsale (21,205 of 65,012).

Really sold out means the count went to about zero and stayed there. It had to happen at least 72 hours before the show. That was 11.2% of the 1,476 events, with show dates from Feb 15 to Aug 15, 2026.

The 245 events in the second tile went to zero only inside the final 72 hours. Those tickets were most likely taken off sale, not sold.

86% of real sell-outs happened 7 or more days before the show (165 sell-outs). The median real sell-out came 25 days before the show.

Compare the first 3 days after the public onsale with the next 2 weeks. Inventory fell about 3 times faster per day in the first 3 days (402 events). That number is how fast inventory fell, not how many tickets.

About 1 in 4 tracked events (346 of 1,369) had inventory come back at least once after the onsale week.

On the shows that added tickets, the median drop was 81 tickets. In our Drop Report that was 21,205 of 65,012 concert, comedy and theater shows. The shows were dated Oct 2025 to Sep 2026. The Drop Report is a separate, larger sample than the 1,369 events above.

What does not work

  • Do not go by a "selling fast" or "low inventory" label on its own. The label does not give you a ticket count.
  • Do not trust a zero in the final 72 hours unless tickets remaining were already low before it.
  • Do not go by a single count of tickets remaining.
  • Do not count secondary listings as sales.
  • Check the event status before you call a zero a sell-out. A cancelled or moved show can go to zero the same way. About 1 in 17 Ticketmaster concert and theater events was cancelled or rescheduled (3,389 of 57,352).

If you run the event, you do not need to estimate

Your ticketing dashboard has the real count of tickets sold. This page is for everyone who cannot see it.

How we got these numbers
  • We counted the tickets listed on Ticketmaster event pages over time. It is a count of tickets remaining, never a count of tickets sold.
  • The chart covers about 2,700 Ticketmaster concerts tracked from the public onsale. Show dates run from Feb 15 to Sep 27, 2026. Peak means the highest count we tracked for a concert. The count can include Ticketmaster resale tickets.
  • The sell-out numbers cover 1,476 tracked Ticketmaster concert and theater events. Show dates run from Feb 15 to Aug 15, 2026. A zero inside the final 72 hours looks the same as tickets taken off sale. We do not count it as a sell-out.
  • The cancelled or rescheduled number covers 57,352 Ticketmaster concert and theater events in the same date range.
  • The number for tickets added comes from our 2026 Drop Report. It covers 65,012 concert, comedy and theater shows from Oct 2025 to Sep 2026.
  • The Vivid Seats check covers 32 events from August to September 2026.
  • The chart and the sell-out numbers cover Ticketmaster only, and no sports. These are past patterns in tracked data, not predictions. Numbers pulled October 1, 2026.

Questions people ask

Is there a way to see how many tickets have sold for a concert?

Not an exact number before the show. Ticketmaster does not publish it. You can estimate it from tickets remaining and how that count changes over days or weeks. After the show, Pollstar and Billboard Boxscore publish tickets sold for the shows that are reported to them.

Is there a way to see how many tickets are left for a concert on Ticketmaster?

Yes, for reserved seats. Count the seats you can still buy on the seat map. That count leaves out tickets that are held back. At the time of writing, the page does not show a total. General admission sections do not show a count. Counting dots is free and works fine for 1 show. If you check many events, Toolbox puts the remaining ticket count on the event page.

Does Ticketmaster tell you when a show is sold out?

Not exactly. At the time of writing, the event page says when no tickets are available. That is not always a sell-out. The page does not say if the tickets were bought, held or taken off sale. Tickets also get added later. About 1 in 4 tracked events (346 of 1,369) had inventory come back at least once after the onsale week.

How do I know if a concert is really sold out?

Check when the ticket count went to zero and if it stayed there. Only about 1 in 9 tracked Ticketmaster concert and theater events really sold out (165 of 1,476). About 1 in 6 still had plenty of inventory 72 hours before the show, then went to zero. Those tickets were most likely taken off sale, not sold. We counted a sell-out as real when the count went to about zero and stayed there. It had to happen at least 72 hours before the show.

Can you see how many tickets sold on StubHub?

No. We found no public count of tickets sold for an event on StubHub. You can see the listings and their asking prices. A listing that leaves is not proof of a sale. Sellers also pull and relist tickets.

TicketFlipping Toolbox
